PrEP consultation

PrEP-Sprechstunde

In our weekly PrEP consultation, we provide you with comprehensive and individualised information on the topic. After consultation, the necessary preliminary and follow-up examinations as well as prescriptions can be carried out in the on-site medical consultation.

Key information about HIV PrEP
  • PrEP is a safer-sex method in which HIV-negative people take an HIV medication before, during, and after potential exposure to HIV to protect themselves from infection.
  • In principle, anyone can protect themselves from HIV with PrEP, regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation.
  • People with statutory health insurance who have a substantial (increased) risk of HIV can receive PrEP prescriptions from certain doctors. The medication and related examinations are then covered by the health insurance.
  • PrEP can also be prescribed by any doctor on a private prescription. In this case, the cost must be borne by the patient.
  • PrEP is taken daily, either continuously or around periods of risk.
  • People taking PrEP must be regularly tested for HIV and kidney function. Testing for other sexually transmitted infections is also included. Good medical supervision is therefore essential when taking PrEP.
  • PrEP protects against HIV, but not against other sexually transmitted infections or hepatitis.
